Janice left the area in 1958 to live in
Newport,
RI, while her husband was in the
Navy. After 18 months,
they came back to live in Cheektowaga. In 1967, a job transfer took
them to Portland,
Oregon, and later they were
transferred to Cleveland,
Ohio where she currently
resides. Janice’s
husband of 45 years passed away three years ago. Before his death, they
learned to square dance.
She is presently the vice president of the Cleveland
Federation of Square & Round Dance Clubs. This year she was selected
as the Honor Person of the Cleveland Federation for 2005-2006. In addition to square
dancing, she has volunteered at the Cleveland Grand Prix, the Tall
Ships Festival, and also the Cleveland Air Show. While in the
Buffalo area, both
Janice and Richard learned to ski and they were members of the
National Ski Patrol for 25 years. In June, she returned to
Portland,
Oregon for a square dance
convention, and also a cruise to
Alaska.
Janice has three sons and nine
grandchildren (four girls and five boys, ranging in age from
3 to 22 years old). She adds, “I haven’t been in
Western New York since 1993, and I am looking
forward to seeing old friends and how the area has
changed.”
